Dove long bay yesterday... Vis wad about 8m. Water was nice and warm. Plenty of bait fish .. Saw a loner king. Ended up taking a lobster. Got harrased by a randwick council working thinking the lobster was undersized... He quickly shut up when I ripped out the lobster measurer issued by fisheries.

Dived South Maroubra this morning. Viso was ~5m in most places, some up to 10m. Fishlife was dismal, just the occasional luderick or bream.

Went to Malabar with mate this Sunday to see how warm I'd be in a wetsuit I just bought since I cant wait for summer to get back in the water. By the time I mucked around with the shark shield and adjusted the wetsuit my mate was already dragging a giant cuttlefish on his float line - the biggest I've seen so far.

Very good visibility, 10m at least at most times. Too many rockfish I didnt even bother shooting, though, some very decent size around 40 - 50cm possibly. I only got a 35cm blackfish and some black/greenish 50cm+ fish we couldn't identify, but this run was a trial for wetsuit and shark shield really not so much spearing for me. Mate got the cuttlefish and big octopus which was great dinner. Few other spearos got big breams.

I'm really starting to like Malabar and will frequent it weekly during winter depending on weather. Last time I got an awesome 60cm+ Garfish, a 35cm bream and 4 30cm+ Morwongs, 2 of which I speared right at the boat ramp as I got in.

Ravinggg, don't spear fish you don't know mate, ever! If not sure, look it up first and shoot later.

What "charts" do you have in mind Ravinggg? If your guess about "some weird black fish" has some foundation, it would make it a very special fish for that matter. I hope you have a picture of it, as I would be more than happy to identify it for us and if you don't, try to give me as many features you observed on "the weird black fish" so I can start with "Could it be this one...? game.

Hey raving, just because you don't know what it is doesn't mean it is not protected. It might even be poisonous to eat or have poisonous spines. Really mate, if you don't know what it is don't kill it.

I know what all the Groper species look like. This was a black fish.

Such crap weather these days, I'm edging for some spearing.
